More than 110 countries now apply International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), a number that is set to rise to around 150 countries over the coming years. Most importantly, the  US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)  has recently proposed a roadmap that could lead to the use of IFRS by US listed companies in the future. With the United States on board, IFRS would be set to become the common accounting language of financial reporting worldwide.
