European Business Awards: Duncan Goose of UK’s Global Ethics wins RSM International’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Publication Date: 09-Apr-2009

Duncan Goose, the founder of not-for-profit organization ‘Global Ethics Limited’ was today named RSM International’s Entrepreneur of the Year at the European Business Awards in Rome. The primary aim of the business, formed in 2005, is to raise funds for humanitarian projects in developing countries.

Presented at a gala ceremony and dinner in Rome, by Jean Stephens, CEO, RSM International, a leading global accounting and consulting network, the award recognizes Duncan’s true entrepreneurship in the inception and development of Global Ethics.

Under Duncan’s leadership, the organization’s first initiative was to launch a bottled water brand called One. One donates all profits to fund the development in Africa of unique roundabout powered water pumps - called Playpumps; as children play, water is pumped from the ground into storage tanks for use by the community. It went on to become the official water for the Live8 and Make Poverty History campaigns and continues to change the way people think about buying water. Global Ethics has ambitious plans for the future with similar initiatives.

Between 1998 and 2000 Duncan Goose fulfilled a life-long ambition to ride a motorbike around the world, and it was because of the experiences he encountered on his journey – not least the impact of Hurricane Mitch which killed over 30,000 people in Honduras – that he decided to form Global Ethics.

Jean Stephens said, "Duncan’s exceptional vision and leadership has earned him this award. The ethical values of his organization have been intrinsic to its successfully competing for market share, and have enabled Global Ethics to carve out its own niche in a crowded marketplace. We’re delighted to be presenting this award - one of European Business’ highest accolades - to recognise his achievement”.

Mr. Goose managed to beat some very strong competition to win the award, with nominees including Alexander Cimbalak of Ace Enterprise Slovakia, Vygantas Kirejevas of Bacterfield, James Watt of BrewDog, Warren Vick of Europa Technologies Limited, Michel Guillemot of Gameloft, Elisa Gonzalez de Chaves Fernandez of Mendez Chain SL, Hans-Christoph Quelle of Secusmart and Michael Tobin of TelecityGroup.

The award was presented in front of an audience of influential figures from some of Europe’s leading businesses at the ceremony which recognises excellence and innovation in European enterprise.

“These awards were founded to recognise excellence in business, and Duncan’s passion and drive has justly seen him named as one of this year’s successes. He achieved excellent results in a unique sector, and that is why we were delighted to reward him by naming him winner of the 2009 RSM International Entrepreneur of the Year Award,” said Adrian Tripp, Chief Executive of the European Business Awards.
